Keynote - The skills crisis

Some months back, I wrote in a column that "one of the most challenging issues that you will face through the next decade will be an increasing inability to access the staff and skills necessary to effectively run your business. Blame it on retiring babyboomers, Generation Y and hyper-innovation."

Today I will be doing a keynote on the issues and challenges with hiring a skilled workforce, spending about an hour looking at the future....

The Masters in Business Imagination (MBI) Manifesto

Enough already!

Complacency in a time of rapid, disruptive change can be a death sentence – not only for organizations, but for the careers and skills of those who work there! It's time to abandon the thinking that has had you anchored firmly to the past – and to shift your focus to the future, with enthusiasm, motivation and imagination.

You can do this by abandoning any pretence that the skills of yesterday will be important tomorrow. Figuratively and literally, it is time to move beyond the thinking that has led us to a world of MBA's – Masters of Business Administration – and focus upon the critical skill that will take you into tomorrow.

The world doesn't need more administrators. It needs more MBI's – Masters of Business magination.

Fostering creativity

One of my most recent CAMagazine columns focuses on creativity. Although I spend my time advisiing major organizations on trends, innovation and future issues, I also happen to be a professional acocuntant by background!"When I started my career .... I quickly realized I might be different from everyone else.....Over the years, I've come to realize that part of the fuel that fires my passion for work is my intense curiosity."
